عمده‌ی این قصه‌ها، قصه‌هایی نیستند که من آن‌ها را ساخته باشم، این قصه‌ها مرا ساخته‌اند. بیش از 30 سال شنیدن زندگی مردان و زنان و کودکان و نوجوانانی که یا به تنگ آمده‌اند و یا زندگی را بر خود و دیگران تنگ کرده‌اند گاه و بی‌گاه، به‌جا و بی‌جا مرا به تنگناهایی برده‌اند که چه بسیار برای بیرون آمدن از آن، خود درمانده‌ام. گاه با آن‌ها گریسته‌ام و چه بسیار در خلوت، در کار خود مانده‌ام. گاه با همکار یا استادی مشورت کرده‌ام و گاه عزیزی را به کمک خواسته¬ام.
قصه‌ها، قصه‌های غصه‌اند. مردمانی که در به در به دنبال شادی بوده‌اند. گاه من هم با آن‌ها به جست‌و‌جوی شادی برآمده‌ام و گاه از همان ابتدا عصای سفیدی به دست گرفته‌ام که «آی شادی کجاست؟»
بسیار، خود درمانده بوده‌ام. بسیار به روان‌شناسان همکار و روان‌شناسی پناه برده‌ام و اعتراف می‌کنم که گاه از آن گریخته¬ام چرا که «انتقال متقابل» به عنوان مقوله‌ای غربی نتوانسته است جان شرقی مرا از همزاد پنداری با مراجعینم برهاند و نتوانسته‌ام مراجعم را جای خود، فرزندم و یا برادر و خواهرم و یا پدر و مادرم نبینم.
قصه‌ها، قصه‌های من نیستند و بی هیچ مهارتی آکادمیک در قصه‌نویسی، از جان برآمده‌اند و برکاغذ نشسته‌اند و حاصل آمیزش جان من با رنج مراجعینم بوده است. نخواسته¬ام از حق دور شوم و یا حقه‌ای به کار بزنم تا حادثه‌ای در قصه‌ام شکل بگیرد. این قصه‌ها، غصه‌ی مردمانی بوده که بعضاً خود، سرا پا حادثه بوده‌اند.
در جمع کردن این مجموعه مدیون بسیاری از مراجعینم هستم. خاطراتی هم از دوران کودکی و بزرگسالی خود نوشته‌ام که به سیاق همراهی و همنوایی با بقیه¬ی خاطرات حرفه‌ای‌ام بوده است. شاید شباهت‌هایی که با مردم دیده‌ام و کمک‌هایی که از آن‌ها گرفته‌ام موجب شده باشد که جرئت خود افشایی یافته و خود را میان آن‌ها و زندگی‌نامه‌ی‌شان آشنا و امن دیده باشم. گاه نیز قصه‌های تکریم و غصه¬های دوستانی را نوشته‌ام که جزء زندگی حرفه‌ایم نبوده‌اند ولی بزرگواری آن‌ها موجب شده که از آن‌ها نیز بنویسم.
سعی کرده¬ام راز کسی فاش نشود اما گاه بزرگی فاجعه چنان بوده که ممکن است دیگران بتوانند موضوعی را حدس بزنند. ممکن است بعضی از خوانندگان کتاب از همان افرادی باشند که به من مراجعه داشته¬اند اما غیر از خودشان کسی نخواهد فهمید که این راز آن‌هاست.
